Pastor Dan was a remarkable man who really saw the good in people, and helped them discover their true calling. When we joined the congregation, and he preached about women serving the community, it really got my wife's attention.
You see, my wife had been doubting herself for years. I hesitate to use the word "bimbo" but I'll just say that she isn't winning a Nobel Prize anytime soon. She's been a little directionless, flitting from job to job, with no real sense of what her purpose was.
After meeting with Pastor Dan, though, she came out of the one-on-one session brimming with energy.
"I know what I'm here for!" she told me, ecstatic as she wiped her mouth with her hand.
"That's great, honey. What is it?"
I was so pleased that Pastor Dan had been able to lift the burden of uncertainty from my wife.
"I'm going to be helping the homeless," she said. "Pastor Dan says that not all women are supposed to be scientists or thinkers. Some of them are meant to serve mankind in other ways. Through acts of submission and service to the community."
It sounded incredible. I was overjoyed that she'd be doing something to help ease the suffering of those less fortunate.
"Do you also get paid?" I asked.
"Of course," she said. "Every homeless man I help."
The very next day, my wife met with Pastor Dan at the local shelter, where she spent the day helping the homeless find relief from their suffering. I was so proud of her.
Sure, it's tiring work and she has a little less time for me when she comes home, but the good she's doing for the community is worth it.
Now, every day, she serves at the shelter and comes home, raving about how great it feels to finally have a purpose and direction.
